Vicki shares some Christmas holiday ideas with you....
If you are thinking about spending our summer break somewhere other than with the in-laws and you want to experience the ultimate white Christmas, there really are some great holiday destinations for you to choose from.
I've always had a hankering to head off to Lapland and catch up with Santa, just to make sure he hadn't lost my address during the year! I also think it would be great fun to spend a night in an igloo.
A few years ago, I was lucky enough to travel on the Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Siberian Railway at Christmas time and I have to admit, it was the most memorable Christmas and New Year I've ever had.
Picnicking on the Great Wall of China, mushing some dogs on a frozen river; skating on a frozen lake in Siberia on Christmas Eve (actually I knew my skating limitations so I stood on the edge of the "rink" and held everybody's coats while they skated, but it was still an experience!); riding in a horse-drawn carriage through a snow-covered forest on Christmas day; and then sipping Vodka in Red Square on New Year's Eve, and I don't even particularly like Vodka! But it was Christmas magic.
If the snow and cold isn't for you, then there are some great cruise options to choose from at Christmas - the ones close to home that cruise through the Pacific Islands of Vanuatu, Noumea and Fiji, or you can head up to Asia and cruise the coastal waters of Vietnam or Thailand.
If you fancy heading a bit further afield on a ship, then perhaps the Antartic Christmas cruising is more your style. Penguins, icebergs and a quick dip in chilly waters - that's something you don't experience every Christmas, and something you won't forget.
